Booking FAQs
Step 1: Visit the Booking Page
Step 2: Select “Service 14” – Bone Densitometry. If both bone density and whole body composition are required, select “Service 7”.
Step 3: Select a suitable date and time from the calendar.
Step 4: Referral Requirements:
- If you already have a referral, uncheck ‘Generate Referral Slip online with Dr Janet Macintosh’ and email the referral to Tony@bodydexafit.com.au.
- Any referral form for bone density will be accepted.
- Whole body composition referrals are subject to Victorian Government criteria for GPs and allied health professionals (specialists not restricted).
FEES & MEDICARE REBATE
DEXA Bone Density Scan: $170
Medicare rebate (if eligible): approx. $101.55
Estimated out-of-pocket cost: approx. $68.45
- Please note that eligibility for a Medicare rebate depends on meeting the specific criteria outlined in the Medicare Benefits Schedule: https://www9.health.gov.au/mbs/fullDisplay.cfm?type=note&qt=NoteID&q=DN.1.18
- If you have previously claimed a Medicare rebate for bone densitometry, you may not be eligible to claim again within 12 months, 24 months, or 5 years, depending on the relevant item number and your clinical indication.
- To facilitate processing your rebate on the day of your appointment, please bring your Medicare card and the physical EFTPOS card linked to your cheque or savings account (CHQ or SAV). The rebate cannot be processed to a credit card. If using Apple Pay, please ensure you select the debit/EFTPOS option rather than credit.
Step 1: Understand the Booking Process
Due to regulatory requirements, a medical referral is required for DEXA Body Composition scans. This can be arranged quickly and conveniently online through our medical specialist, Dr Janet Macintosh, by completing the online consent form:

Dr Macintosh is a qualified Radiologist and, recognising the restrictive eligibility criteria placed on other referrers, is well positioned to provide the appropriate referral. The referral cost is $40 (no rebate available). This referral may be used for up to 4 scans within 12 months and subsequent scans must be at least 8 weeks apart.
Alternatively, a referral may be provided by your chosen GP or Allied Health Professional*. However, they are subject to restrictive eligibility criteria, which you may not meet. If choosing this option, they must complete the approved referral form below (other forms will not be accepted):

Keep “Generate Referral Slip online with Dr Janet Macintosh” checked unless you have already emailed a compliant referral to Tony@bodydexafit.com.au

You can view, change or cancel your appointment online up to 24 hours before the appointment start time by following these steps:
- Open the booking confirmation email you received.
- Scroll down and select “View / change booking” button.
- Click the Reschedule link.
- A Bookeo page will open displaying your booking details and available times.
- To change your appointment, click the Change button shown on the page.
- To cancel your appointment, click the “Cancel My Booking” button at the bottom of the page and follow the prompts to confirm.
Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email reflecting any changes made.
