Bone Densitometry
This service includes:
- Bone Density Test of the lumbar spine & hip
- The Radiologist will interpret the scan and provide your referring doctor with a comprehensive report
- DEXA Bone Density Scan: $180
- Medicare rebate (if eligible): approx. $101.55
- Estimated out-of-pocket cost: approx. $78.45

If you have previously claimed a Medicare rebate for bone densitometry, you may not be eligible to claim again within 12 months, 24 months, or 5 years, depending on the relevant item number and your clinical indication.
To facilitate processing your rebate on the day of your appointment, please bring your Medicare card and the physical EFTPOS card linked to your cheque or savings account (CHQ or SAV). The rebate cannot be processed to a credit card. If using Apple Pay, please ensure you select the debit/EFTPOS option rather than credit.

Preparation for Bone Density Test
Before the Scan:
- Wear comfortable clothing without metal, such as zippers, buttons, or underwire bras. You may be asked to change into a gown.
- Avoid taking calcium supplements for 24 hours before the test, as they can interfere with the scan accuracy.
- DXA scans should not be scheduled within 7 days of imaging procedures involving contrast agents (such as a barium enema, contrast MRI, Nuclear Medicine or CT scan).
